Dr. Amna Hiweish
CCFP, LMCC, MB ChB
Dr. Hiweish is a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has received her Certification from the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) in 2017. Dr. Hiweish has also been a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) since 2012.
Dr. Hiweish was born in Baghdad, Iraq, where she embarked on her career and graduated from the University of Baghdad – College of Medicine in 1986. She completed her residency and worked as a general practitioner at the Medical City Teaching Hospital besides running her own clinic for 13 years in Iraq.
Dr. Hiweish and her family then moved to Dubai, United Arab of Emirates in 2003, where she worked at Belhoul Specialty Hospital (BSH) for 7 years as a general practitioner at the emergency department and out-patient clinic. In 2005, Dr. Hiweish was awarded by Dubai Women’s Association for her excellence in actively bringing awareness towards women’s healthcare and empowering women as they establish their healthcare goals and needs.
In 2009, Dr. Hiweish and her family immigrated to Canada and continued her career in Family Medicine in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. In addition to providing the full range of general practitioner services, Dr. Hiweish worked at the emergency department. She also worked at the long-term care and palliative care units at the Blue Crest Home and St. Lawrence Long-Term Centre.
In 2018, Dr. Hiweish moved to Ontario where she joined the Lakeside Health Clinic team to continue her practice in Family Medicine and apply the skills she acquired over her 33 year of experience. Dr. Hiweish believes that the cornerstone of family medicine is in providing high quality patient-centered care, building a caring relationship with patients and their families, and providing compassionate support and excellent treatment.
Aside from practicing at the clinic, Dr. Hiweish attends Continuing Education courses on a regular basis to keep up with the latest medical advancements used in treating patients. Dr. Hiweish enjoys cooking, walking and spending family time with her husband, two sons and daughter.
